CORE 179 "The Cave" Info Session
9/11/2014
All students in CORE 179, ODU’s first year seminar course, explore the theme "What does it mean to be human." "The Cave" is a common text and at this interactive session you’ll hear Dr. Stephen Thomas discuss one of the most famous stories in all of our literature from Plato's Republic. His Socrates asks us to imagine that we have been prisoners tied in our places in a cave, looking only in one direction. Inexplicably, we suddenly find ourselves free to move around, and to see for ourselves. We are then led up and out of the cave into the light. What would that be like? What are we to make of this story? 3:30-4:20 p.m. in Spangler 304. ODUWOW: Be Successful.
