Hello everyone, I am down for the count with the flu. Unfortunately, I have to cancel class. Today, we were going to get all set for the Supreme Court visit in class. Instead, we will have to do this online. Please go to the discussion board and find the topic "Supreme Court Trip and Rides" and follow the instructions. Post whether or not you plan to go, your cell, and if you can drive (how many you can take) and if you need a ride. If you need a ride, scroll through and respond to those who indicate they can drive. I will post the other important details about the trip via email. Otherwise, please make sure you stay current with the reading on the syllabus, and you may also use this time to work on the quiz and your semester projects. I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I do not like to cancel class, but unfortunately this is unavoidable sometimes.

Hello everyone, I am down for the count with the flu. Unfortunately, I have to cancel class. Today, we were going to get all set for the Supreme Court visit in class. The trip will be February 19th and we need to be at the court by 8:45. We need to get a firm count on who plans to go and get everyone matched with rides and we will need to do this online. Please go to the discussion board and find the topic "Supreme Court Trip and Rides" and follow the instructions. Post whether or not you are going (or not), your cell, and if you can drive (how many you can take) and if you need a ride. If you need a ride, scroll through and respond to those who indicate they can drive. Please give a firm answer. The court needs a solid estimate of who is attending, and it looks bad if people say they are going and no show, or more people come than they thought and we have seating issues. I will post the other important details about the trip via email, so please check back. Second, please review the Supreme Court documents that are posted on PantherLearn. Read through the facts of the case (tragic) and review the "propositions of law". You will be able to get a general sense of what the arguments are going to be about. The defendant has been convicted and sentenced. He will not be there. This will be about the appropriateness of the death penalty and the lawyers argue every constitutional and statutory point that could persuade the court to lift the death penalty. We won't really know which legal issues the court will focus on until we hear the arguments. I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I do not like to cancel class, but unfortunately this is unavoidable sometimes. Let me know if you have questions or concerns, and I hope you all stay healthy.

Please review the information under the Supreme Court documents tab on our course page to prepare for the trip. Second, I had asked that you research three state or federal policies related to violence. Please write up a summary of these and submit them to the dropbox by next Thursday by the start of class. This policy research is the start of our congressional simulation project. Finally, please make sure you have read the explanations that work for Currie (as noted on the syllabus). I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I do not like to cancel class, but unfortunately this is unavoidable sometimes.
